The Automatic Door Suppliers Association is proud to have headed a trail blazer group of industry professionals to create an Apprenticeship Standard Reference Number STO373 Powered Pedestrian Door Installer and Service Engineer (full details of the standard are available on the institute for apprenticeship's website)

Each Module is selected to ensure that all apprentices attain essential core skills. Level 2 Maths and English will also be provided if the Apprentice does not hold equivalent qualifications

• Pass the ADSA CSCS Health & Safety in a Construction Environment Level 1 approved CITB course within two years of applying for a new card.

As we all know, any qualification or training comes with a financial cost attached to it, so why pay for a CSCS card that doesn’t represent the skills, knowledge and investment that has been put into your workforce only to be refused access to the work site.

Companies can register candidates with an assessor provided by ADSA and it's partner company The Entrance Systems Alliance (ESA)

The recognised NVQ for the Powered Pedestrian Door Industry is titled:

NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Specialist Installation Occupations (Construction) - Door Gate and Shutter Systems - Installation and Maintenance

The NVQ is a site based competency qualification for technicians and depending on skill, knowledge and experience can be delivered in 10 to 12 weeks.

Your Appointed  NVQ Assessor will oversee the process including liaising with your appointed internal co-ordinator regarding site assessment dates. He will also coach the delegate to ensure that all supporting documentation is collated. Below is a list of the likely documentation required for success.

• Company method statements, generic or site specific, these must be signed by the candidate
• Company risk assessments, generic or site specific, these must be signed by the candidate
• Job sheets for work done; these should cover the full range of products over a period of time that the candidate has worked on. These must be signed by both the candidate and customer
• Commissioning sheets for work completed, these should cover a range of products that the candidate has worked on. These must be signed by the candidate
• Drawings associated with work done by the candidate
• Witness statements covering work history with the company
• Any additional documentation which has been signed by the candidate

On successful completion of the NVQ the candidates will be issued with a certificate by the awarding body National Open College Network (NOCN), upon receipt the candidate can then, providing a CSCS H&S pass has been obtained apply for a combined ADSA CSCS card. This card is a confirmation of the candidates knowledge skills and safe behaviours for the Powered Pedestrian Door Industry
