EN17352 has been declared as a Harmonised Standard

On the 2nd August 2023 the EN 17352:2022 was listed as harmonised standard in support of Directive 2006/42 in Official Journal of the European Union.

The EN 17352:2012 - Power operated pedestrian entrance control equipment - Safety in use - Requirements and test methods, covers Powered turnstiles and speed lanes.

As this is a harmonised EN type C standard, it lists the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) that must be met for this product group.

The standard also details the state-of-the-art solutions to protects these EHSRs, this level of safety becomes the minimal allowed. See excerpt below form the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

A harmonised standard provides an indication of the state of the art at the time it was adopted. In other words, the harmonised standard indicates the level of safety which can be expected of a given type of product at that time.

A machinery manufacturer who chooses to apply other technical specifications must be able to demonstrate that his alternative solution is in conformity with the EHSRs of the Machinery Directive and provides a level of safety that is at least equivalent to that afforded by application of the specifications of the harmonised standard.
